A farmer from Somerset, Reid has long been tormented by the conflict between the allure of the land and the pull of the sea. He says: "I have been fortunate to accompany some very good friends on parts of their on-going voyage around the world. Many weeks of crossing oceans gives you time to think, and dream... The thought of doing an epic voyage myself started to germinate, and then grew, so when the Golden Globe Race 2018 was announced, thoughts were galvanised. There was no question - it has to be done!"
