Shane Freeman (59) has 35 years of sailing experience at all levels, starting with beach dinghies . Like McIntyre, he has selected a Tradewind 35 named Mushka. During the delivery trip from Brisbane to Melbourne, Freeman dislocated his shoulder while 35 miles offshore. He made it to the nearest port and decided to have surgery to rectify once and for all, what had become a recurring problem. For both he and McIntyre, short-handed sailing has taken on a new meaning, but both have the tenacity to overcome these set-backs and will undoubtedly make it to the start in 2018.
